I’ve been in the travel industry since 1995, and what started as a career quickly became something I truly loved. Over the years, I’ve watched travel change in so many ways, but the part I love most has stayed the same: getting to know my clients and helping them experience places they may have dreamed about for years.

After more than 30 years, I’m still curious. I still want to see the hotel for myself, experience the cruise ship, learn about a destination I haven’t visited yet, and find those special places and experiences that can completely change a trip.

I think that curiosity is a big part of what makes me a better travel advisor. I never want to stop learning or assume I’ve seen it all. There is always another destination to discover, another hotel to walk through, and another experience I can’t wait to share with my clients.

And honestly, I still get excited every time a client comes home and tells me, “That was the best trip we’ve ever taken.” After all these years, that never gets old.

I specialize in luxury travel that is thoughtfully planned around the people taking the trip. My areas of expertise include African safaris, luxury ocean and river cruises, expedition travel, Europe, the South Pacific, Hawaii, and special milestone trips for couples and families.

I’ve personally traveled to 40 countries across five continents, from South Africa, Kenya, Botswana and Zimbabwe to Fiji, the Maldives, Iceland, Greece, Croatia and destinations throughout Europe and the Caribbean.

That firsthand experience matters. I love being able to tell a client not just where to go, but which experience might be right for them, where it’s worth spending a little more, and sometimes what I would skip altogether.

I especially love planning those bigger, once-in-a-lifetime trips: an African safari, a milestone anniversary, a luxury cruise, a multi-generational family vacation, or a destination that has been sitting on someone’s wish list for years.

I’ve had the opportunity to travel to 40 countries across five continents, and I believe firsthand experience makes a difference when I’m helping my clients plan their own travels.

With more than 30 years in the travel industry, I bring experience, trusted relationships, and firsthand knowledge to every trip I plan. I work with a network of incredible partners around the world and, through my Virtuoso affiliation, can often offer special amenities and experiences that travelers may not have access to on their own.

But what I think matters most is that I’m here. From the first conversation through the details before departure, and even while you’re traveling, you have someone who knows your trip and can advocate for you when something doesn’t go as planned.

My goal isn’t to plan as many trips as possible. It’s to plan the right trip for each client and take care of the details so you can simply enjoy it.

  Most safari camps are hours apart by road, so how do you get between them without losing whole days? After 31 years planning safaris, I explain how the small 4-6 seat bush planes work, why a 40-minute flight usually costs less than a full day with a guide driving you, and what to pack when you’re limited to a soft bag of 25-30 pounds. Plus how my nervous client Christine ended up up front next to the pilot.

• Is an African safari safe for older travelers? Malaria, medical care and travel insurance

  After 31 years as a travel advisor and several trips to Africa, Susan answers the safari questions older travelers ask most. Malaria pills are a personal choice you make with a travel clinic, and South Africa has malaria-free reserves if you’d rather skip them. Very few places require vaccines. Every camp she’s stayed at has satellite radios and an airstrip close by. And travel insurance is a must: the safari companies Susan works with require it, and she offers emergency evacuation coverage on top.
