Every time Kurt and Randi Sue checked into a new hotel on their birthday safari through Kenya and Tanzania, a welcome note, a bottle of wine and a cake were waiting for them.
And every single time, they sent me a photo.
After 31 years, I can tell you the moments clients bring up afterward are usually small. The message waiting when you land, asking how the flight went. The heads-up that your room is ready early. The quiet fix when something is a little off.
Those are easy to miss when you plan on your own. You don't always know what to watch for, what to ask or who to call.
Small things go wrong
A transfer is late. The room isn't what you expected. The hotel is busier than you thought.
None of it is an emergency. It still chips away at a trip when you're left to sort it out yourself.
That's why we stay available while you're traveling.
Sometimes the help is obvious. A call to the hotel to move you to a quieter room. A change to your pickup time. A conversation with a partner who already knows us and understands it's urgent.
Sometimes you never see it. I watch my clients' flights, so if something changes, I'm usually already working on it. We check itineraries and details even when everything looks fine.
Those quiet checks matter.
And sometimes it's big
When my client Barbara BROKE HER BACK in Tahiti, I got on the phone with our partners. We got her husband, Michael, a hotel while she was in surgery, then got them both home in lie-flat seats once she was cleared.
Most trips never need that. It's good to know someone will be there if yours does.
Who we call
Over the years, we've built relationships with hoteliers, property managers and teams on the ground who recognize our names when we call. Being part of Virtuoso helps, and knowing exactly who to call and how to push for our clients matters most.
What we're after is simple: the trip should match what was promised and what feels right for you.
Why clients come back
Many of our clients tell us this is why they keep coming back. If something small goes wrong, they aren't stuck figuring it out in a hotel lobby or at an airport gate. Someone is paying attention.
We work for you. We take care of you before you go, on the trip and when you get back.
So tell me: what's a small thing someone did for you on a trip that you still remember?
