Why I Keep Going Back to Jamaica

By McKenzie McCarty

Why I keep going back to Jamaica

There are a lot of beautiful places in the Caribbean, and I’ve loved plenty of them, but Jamaica is the one I keep going back to! It’s the people, the energy, and the way every trip somehow feels a little more familiar than the last. I’ve been multiple times now, and landing there feels like coming back to somewhere that already knows me. It’s also the place where my husband found out he loves snorkeling, which honestly changed how we travel together, so Jamaica will always have a special spot in my heart!

A place that feels like home

Some of my favorite moments in Jamaica are the simplest ones. I love sitting by the water at sunset, watching the sky go from gold to deep blue, and just being completely present. The warmth there goes way beyond the weather, too! The way people welcome you feels genuine, conversations start easily, laughter comes quickly, and there’s a sense of connection that’s hard to describe until you feel it yourself. That feeling is what keeps pulling me back, and every time I return, it’s right there waiting for me.

The beaches I can’t stay away from

Jamaica’s beaches are exactly what you picture when you think of the Caribbean: soft sand, clear water, and just enough movement in the ocean to make it feel alive without ever feeling rough. I love how easy it is to spend a whole day on the beach without any plan at all! You can swim, float, walk the shoreline, or just sit and take it all in. Some of my favorite moments have been early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when the light gets softer and everything feels calm and slow. It’s the kind of peaceful that stays with you for a long time after you get home.

The things I love doing there

Jamaica is so good at relaxing, but it’s also a great place to get out and do things! Some of my favorites have been catamaran sails, snorkeling in calm, clear water, and just exploring the resorts and the areas around them on foot. Even something as simple as wandering through the tropical landscaping or finding a quiet stretch of beach ends up being a moment I remember. And then there’s the food! At resorts I love, like Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall and JOIA Rose Hall by Iberostar, the variety and quality have been great every single time. There’s something really special about sitting down to a great meal after a full day in the sun, with the ocean just steps away.

Getting there is easier than you think

One of the biggest reasons Jamaica became a repeat trip for me is how easy it is to get to! From gateways like Charlotte and Miami, it’s a quick, manageable flight, which makes it a great choice even when you only have a few days. And I love the moment when you’re looking out the plane window as you come down over that bright blue water, because that’s when you know the vacation has officially started. Getting there is easy, and everything waiting for you on the ground makes it so hard not to go back.

Why I’ll keep going back

Jamaica is beautiful, and the beaches, the resorts, and the food all deliver every time! But what really keeps me coming back is how it makes me feel: welcomed, relaxed, connected, and genuinely cared for. As a travel advisor, I also know how much the right resort changes the trip. Two properties can look equally gorgeous online and feel completely different once you’re there, and pretty pictures tell a story that may not be accurate. Through our relationships and our Virtuoso network, I can match you with the resort and experiences that fit how you actually like to travel.

If Jamaica has been on your mind and you’re not sure which part of the island (or which resort!) is right for you, that’s where I come in! Book a complimentary consultation with me! We’ll get to know each other, I’ll walk you through how Susan’s Travel Services works (including what being a Virtuoso agency means for you), and we’ll talk about next steps.
