Why Nanuku Resort is one of Fiji’s best family resorts

Why Nanuku Resort Fiji Is One of Fiji's Best Family Resorts

We pulled up to Nanuku and were greeted by traditional Fijian warriors beating drums, and honestly, I knew right then this stay was going to be different! Nanuku Resort sits on Fiji’s southern coast near Pacific Harbour, on a huge beachfront estate with private villas and residences, cultural experiences, farm-to-table dining, and a long list of activities. Couples will absolutely love it here, but what really impressed me was how family-friendly it is, with so many ways for families to explore and spend real time together. And the thing that makes Nanuku special is the hardest thing to capture in a photo: the feeling of the place. By the end of our stay, it felt like we’d been welcomed into a community!

A welcome I won’t forget

That first welcome set the tone for the whole trip. The warriors and their drums brought so much energy, and we got to take photos with them and their beautifully carved drum, which was such a fun way to arrive! It felt like we were being welcomed into a living culture right from the start, and that warmth never faded the entire time we were there.

Our 3-bedroom oceanfront residence

Our group was split across a few different accommodation categories, so we got to see several styles of rooms around the resort. I stayed in the 3-Bedroom Residence, and I could have happily spent my entire vacation there! It felt more like a luxury beachfront home than a resort room. There’s one bedroom downstairs, a second upstairs (that was mine!), and a third in a separate guest cottage in the private courtyard, and every single bedroom has a king bed, which makes it great for families, couples traveling together, or multi-generational groups. Downstairs, a big living room and a fully equipped kitchen open right up to the backyard, where you have a private pool, a hot tub, a hammock looking out at the ocean, a covered gazebo, and direct access to the beach. The view across the water was gorgeous.

What I loved most, though, were the little personal touches. There was a handwritten chalkboard sign on our front door welcoming each of us by name, and someone had arranged stones in the bottom of the pool to spell out “Bula!” Those small details say everything about how Nanuku does hospitality. The accommodations are beautiful, and the staff make sure you feel genuinely seen and welcomed in them.

You never have to leave your villa (unless you want to!)

One of my favorite things about Nanuku is that you can vacation exactly the way you want. At some resorts, you feel like you have to keep moving around the property to enjoy everything. At Nanuku, you absolutely can go explore, but if your perfect week is staying in your private villa the whole time, you can do that too! Between the beach right outside, your own pool, the outdoor living space, in-villa dining, and private chef experiences, the residences are built for lingering, and the whole stay feels relaxed and personal.

From the farm to the table, Fijian style

One of my favorite experiences started at the resort’s farm! We took a boat downriver to the property where a lot of the produce served at the resort is grown, and walking through the gardens and seeing exactly where our food came from gave me a whole new appreciation for every meal we ate there. Nanuku puts a big focus on sustainability and sourcing locally, and you could really see it. After harvesting produce ourselves, we headed to the beach for a cooking class that turned into one of the most memorable meals of the whole trip.

Cooking barefoot on the beach

The class focused on 2 versions of kokoda, which is often called Fiji’s version of ceviche. The first was what our hosts called the “mountain” version. We filled hollow bamboo stalks with prawns, vegetables, and fresh coconut milk, cooked them over an open fire, and then poured everything into bowls made from coconut husks, and it was warm, rich, and so comforting! The second was the “sea” version, with fresh fish marinated in lime juice, where the acid in the lime naturally “cooks” the fish. Both were delicious, but the sea version was my favorite, because the bright citrus and fresh seafood tasted like Fiji to me. Cooking barefoot on the beach while learning traditional techniques made it even more special, and Nanuku has lots of cultural and culinary experiences like this where you actually get your hands in it and take part!

Dining your way

The dining at Nanuku was exceptional! One evening we had a private poolside dinner with the property’s manager, with incredible food, attentive service, and really wonderful conversation. Beyond how good the food was, what impressed me most was the flexibility. You can eat in one of the resort’s restaurants, book a private chef in your villa, or just have meals delivered right to your door, and there are dining spots all over the property, from right on the beach to small private settings. The drinks program is great too, with creative cocktails and mocktails, plus alcohol-free beers, which I always appreciate as someone who doesn’t drink!

Service that feels personal

Nanuku is a pretty big resort, which made this part even more impressive: the staff learned our names almost immediately. The very next morning, our buggy driver showed up to take us to breakfast and greeted each of us by name! It kept happening the whole stay, with staff remembering conversations, asking how our day went, and genuinely wanting to get to know us. By the end of the trip, it felt like we’d made friends! That kind of service is special anywhere, and it’s even more remarkable at a resort this size.

A spa experience I’ll never forget

The spa was another favorite part of my stay. My massage was deeply relaxing, but it was the personal touches that made it so memorable. At the end, my therapist braided my hair, which was such a small, thoughtful gesture, and the whole spa felt like the perfect place to slow down to island time. What stayed with me most happened right before I left. My therapist offered a prayer over me, and as someone who considers herself more spiritual than religious, I found it incredibly moving. It felt sincere and caring, and deeply rooted in Fijian culture. All through Fiji, I noticed a strong sense of faith, gratitude, and connection in everyday life, and that moment captured it perfectly. Nanuku’s wellness offerings draw from traditional island healing practices, so the treatments feel connected to the people who call Fiji home.

The spirit of Fiji

One of the most meaningful parts of our whole stay happened every morning just outside the lobby, where staff members gathered to sing and pray over the resort, the guests, each other, and the island. It was so powerful to witness! Even as visitors, we could feel the sense of community and care among the staff, and it was clearly their daily ritual, part of who they are. The prayers felt rooted in gratitude, love, and connection more than any one religion, and you could feel the warmth behind every word and every song. There’s a deep respect for family, community, and the land all over Fiji, and I felt it more strongly at Nanuku than anywhere else.

Why families will love Nanuku

Nanuku is one of the easiest luxury resorts I’ve ever recommended for families! The residences give you plenty of room to spread out, which is ideal for multi-generational trips, bigger families, or anyone who likes extra space. There are cultural experiences, cooking classes, water activities, and wellness offerings to choose from, plus lots of time to just enjoy the beach, and with private pools, outdoor living spaces, and direct beach access, family time never feels crowded or rushed.

What impressed me most is how well Nanuku balances luxury with being genuinely family-friendly. Parents still get the great dining, spa treatments, personal service, and beautiful accommodations, even with the kids along! At the same time, younger travelers have so many chances to stay busy, learn about Fijian culture, and make memories of their own. Finding a resort that takes such good care of both adults and kids can be surprisingly hard, and Nanuku does it really well.

My final thoughts on Nanuku

Nanuku is beautiful. The villas are gorgeous, the food is exceptional, and between the farm tour, cooking on the beach, private dinners, and the spa, there are so many memorable moments. But when I think back on my stay, what I remember first is how welcomed and cared for we felt from the minute those drums started, from the buggy driver who knew our names to the staff singing outside the lobby every morning. If you’re a family (or a multi-generational group!) looking for space, privacy, and real Fijian culture in one place, the 3-Bedroom Residence at Nanuku is where I’d put you!
