There are beautiful places in the world… and then there are places that completely stay with you because of how they make you feel. Royal Davui Island Resort is absolutely one of those places!
This adults-only, private island resort in Fiji is something really special. It is peaceful, intimate, and designed for travelers who want to slow down, unplug, and just be. No crowds, no chaos, no nightlife… just incredible people, stunning scenery, and an experience that feels so intentional from start to finish!
It is also a Virtuoso preferred property, which adds an extra layer of value and connection behind the scenes, something we always love for our clients.
Getting There + The Warmest Welcome
Getting to Royal Davui is part of the adventure, and honestly, part of what makes it feel so remote and special!
We flew into Nadi Airport, then hopped on a smaller plane to the other side of the island. From there, we took a boat to the resort, about a 30-minute ride across the most beautiful water. As we got closer, you could see the lush greenery, the villas tucked into the hillside, and that deep, vibrant blue water surrounding everything.
As we pulled up to the dock, we could already see people waiting… waving… and then we heard it… singing!!
The owners were standing on the dock alongside the staff, welcoming us in the most heartfelt way. As soon as we stepped off the boat, we were greeted with smiles, music, and the warmest “welcome home.” And yes… I absolutely got emotional immediately!!
We were given welcome drinks and taken on a tour of the property, walking through winding paths and lush greenery while getting a feel for the island. One of the biggest things that stood out right away was that every single accommodation is a private bungalow, and you really feel that throughout your stay.
Outside of meals and time at the pool, we barely saw other guests. It never felt crowded, not even once. This is truly a place for relaxation, connection, and privacy.
And somehow… within hours… the staff knew all of our names!!
I remember walking to breakfast and hearing “Good morning, McKenzie!” over and over again, and I genuinely could not figure out how everyone knew me already. That level of attention is something you just don’t see often, and it makes such a difference.
My Villa: Sunset Plunge Pool Dream
I stayed in a Sunset Plunge Pool Villa and I genuinely did not want to leave!!!
Walking into the villa, there was a bottle of champagne waiting for me along with a freshly baked loaf of banana bread (which I absolutely devoured). It immediately felt welcoming and thoughtful in a way that set the tone for the entire stay.
The villa itself is stunning. The living area is open-air, which makes you feel connected to the outdoors, while the bedroom and bathroom are air-conditioned for comfort. And yes… I had an outdoor shower!!
There is just something about showering outside in Fiji that feels like a core memory. Between that and the private plunge pool overlooking the ocean, it felt like such a peaceful little retreat.
The bed was SO comfortable, I slept incredibly well the entire time. And even though the villa felt completely secluded, it was still just a short walk to the main dining area and pool.
One thing I do want to mention, the island does have some steep hills. It adds to the views and the overall feel of the property, but it is definitely something to keep in mind for travelers with mobility limitations.
Dining: Some of the Best Food We Had in Fiji
The food here deserves its own moment!!!
Royal Davui is a meal-inclusive property, which makes the experience feel even more seamless. You are not constantly thinking about where to eat or what things cost, you are just enjoying it.
There is one main dining area on the island, but the menus change daily for both lunch and dinner, which keeps everything fresh and exciting. Every single night felt like a new experience, and we were genuinely excited to see what was coming next.
The dishes were beautifully presented, incredibly flavorful, and thoughtfully curated. It felt elevated without being overly formal, which matched the relaxed luxury vibe of the resort perfectly.
We truly loved every single meal, and I don’t say that lightly. Some of our favorite bites from the entire Fiji trip happened right here!
There is also a cute activity board near the dining area that lists everything going on throughout the week, which I loved. It made it easy to see what was happening without feeling like you had to plan every second of your day.
The Pool + Beach Life
The pool area quickly became one of our favorite places to spend time.
It sits right off the beach, with plenty of seating and a deck lined with lounge chairs overlooking the ocean. It is the kind of place where you sit down “for a minute” and suddenly hours have passed.
There is also poolside service, which makes it even harder to leave once you’re settled in. Right next to the pool is the activity center, where guests can book excursions, grab snorkeling gear, or plan out their day.
The beach itself is beautiful, though a bit rocky in some areas, so I would definitely recommend bringing water shoes. Once you’re in the water though, it is absolutely stunning.
Snorkeling, Sunset Cruises + Experiences
We did a snorkeling excursion and it was incredible!
The reef is absolutely full of life, colorful fish, beautiful coral, and super clear water. We got in right off the dock and were immediately surrounded by marine life.
They also offer night snorkeling with UV lights, where the coral actually glows!! We didn’t get to do it ourselves, but we met a honeymoon couple who did, and they could not stop talking about it.
We also did a private sunset boat ride, and I would recommend this to any couple visiting!
It was one of those experiences that just feels so special. We had champagne, a charcuterie board, and the most beautiful views as the sun set over the water. It felt incredibly romantic and peaceful.
During the ride, we also learned about Beqa Island, the nearby villages, and their history, which added such a meaningful layer to the experience.
A Night of Tradition: The Kava Ceremony
One of the most memorable nights of our stay was the Kava ceremony, and it ended up being so much more meaningful than I expected.
The evening started in such a fun way. They “crowned” a village chief and chief-ess for the night, which ended up being the honeymoon couple we had met earlier. It immediately made the experience feel interactive and brought everyone together.
From there, we were taught about the history and significance of Kava in Fijian culture.
Kava is made from the root of the yaqona plant and is considered the social drink of choice in Fiji. It is used to welcome guests, bring people together, and mark important moments. The ceremony itself is very intentional, with specific clapping rituals and a respectful rhythm to how the drink is prepared and shared.
It is not just about drinking something, it is about connection.
I will admit… I was skeptical. I really did not think we would “feel” anything from it.
But we absolutely did!!
The effect is subtle at first, but the more you drink, the more relaxed you become. It is not overwhelming at all, just this calm, grounded feeling that settles in. By the end of the night, we all felt so relaxed, present, and completely at ease.
And that sleep afterward? Incredible. It was such a beautiful way to connect with the culture and really understand a deeper part of Fiji beyond just the scenery.
The People: What Makes It Unforgettable
As stunning as the resort is, the people are what truly make Royal Davui unforgettable.
The staff here go so far above and beyond, and it feels genuine in every single interaction.
My parents had actually stayed here a few years ago, and unbelievably, the staff still remembered them!! We even recreated photos they had taken during their visit with some of the same team members, which was such a special full-circle moment.
By the time we left, after just two nights, we were emotional saying goodbye.
We were serenaded again as we departed, just like when we arrived, and there truly was not a dry eye in our group.
It really made me understand what everyone says about Fiji…
Yes, it is beautiful. But it is the people who make it unforgettable.
